What makes Journeywork different?
We foster relationships between soil and roots and wildlife with every plant we put in the ground. We are also growing local relationships between volunteers, between people new to the native plant movement and long-time practitioners, relationships with EACs and residents, with school and church communities, and among newsletter subscribers.
All of these relationships are vital to do the work of restoring biodiversity and repopulating native landscapes here in the Philadelphia area. Journeywork is your super-local grassroots effort to replace the grass--the turfgrass, that is--with native grasses and flowers that give life to us all.
Journeywork volunteers gave 299 hours this year to plant, weed, sheet mulch, lop, sort plants, prep and clean up events, and share information at local fairs. Through our plantings at schools, libraries, and churches, in residential yards, and through our second Pollinator Palooza, we added 5,619 native plants to our local habitat. Our third Pollinator Palooza signed up 210 yards to plant 5,936 native flowers and sedges next spring.
With your support, we gave out 13 plant grants to schools and other educational programs.
Since we began in 2022, Journeywork has added 12,801 native plants to the land around you, plants that do not need fertilizer or pesticide treatments, plants that reduce air pollution because they don't need to be mowed or leaf blown.
When you donate to Journeywork, you are supporting the expansion of our outreach to schools, community groups, and neighborhoods. You are also taking a tangible step toward a shared future of healthier air and water, of summer evenings melting into firefly light.
At the local level, you are supporting the human and more-than-human relationships that sustain life and foster joy. The monarch butterfly and the child who witnesses it emerge from its chrysalis. The after school club that plants a pollinator garden together. The neighbors who admire a spicebush swallowtail flying through both of their yards.
We depend on memberships and individual contributions to fund our outreach and plant grant efforts. Our goal is to raise $7,500 by December 31 to keep this work going and growing. We appreciate a donation in any amount, and every donation is tax-deductible. If your employer has a match program, your gift can make twice the impact!
